Types of Days

There are typically two types of insight days your organisation can offer:

1. Job role focused

These types of insight days reflect a job shadowing nature, typical activities include:

  • Allowing students to attend a work meeting e.g. a team update meeting.
  • Gathering student’s perspectives on a project e.g. a new marketing campaign.
  • Allowing students to carry out work activities e.g. ringing clients.
  • Providing training of some sort e.g. how to use excel.

2. Company focused

These types of insight days focus on the opportunities within an organisation, typically activities involve:

  • Explanation of what the company does and the markets it operates within.
  • Providing opportunities for students to network with current graduates and employees.
  • Present current placement and graduate opportunities.
  • Present on how to write a CV and complete the application process.

Insightful's advice

We advise you take elements of both types in order to make your insight day as effective as possible.

Our idea of a perfect insight day:
  • Brief explanation of what your organisation does.
  • Allow students to attend a project or team meeting and ascertain their opinion on a current project/idea.
  • If the group size is too big for this then create a real business challenge involving a challenge your organisation is currently facing and what students recommend to overcome this.
  • Brief explanation of the opportunities within your organisation and tips for the application process.
  • Provide attendees with feedback as to how they did, both face to face and through a brief written report which they can then use as a credible reference.

Overall the day should be interactive and provide opportunities for students to produce something for your organisation and provide you with the perfect opportunity to showcase your organisation and spot talent.
